Hoosier Village Plans $32 Million Construction Project near Zionsville
Current campus will replace several facilities including residence hall, dining center

Indianapolis – Hoosier Village, located just off Interstate 465 and Michigan Road, has submitted plans to the Zionsville Planning Department to expand its campus by adding four new facilities, 50 more full-time jobs and 125 workers during construction, totaling $32 million.

A new apartment complex will replace the original Residence Hall constructed in the 1960s, renovated in the 1990s and expanded in 2001. The licensed residential building is designed to include 90 modern, convenient apartments with more accessible and comprehensive amenities.

“Hoosier Village is a community of vibrant, dynamic residents,” said Sally Keenan, executive director of Hoosier Village. “As more residents choose to live at our campus, this expansion will add to our facilities, offering a greater array of amenities, from a fully-equipped fitness center and indoor swimming pool, to a variety of casual and traditional dining experiences and specialized continuing-care options.”

The Hoosier Village proposal results from last year’s comprehensive planning done for the entire campus. The goal was to expand and update facilities and services to meet the needs of current and future residents, from those with an active lifestyle to those needing continuing levels of care.

The new 23,700-square-foot Dining Center will contain a more modern, efficient kitchen to serve the growing needs of the diverse Hoosier Village residents. It will feature several different dining venues, from casual to traditional, with an approximate 250-person seating capacity.

Hoosier Village residents are actively maintaining their physical fitness and health, and a new Community Center will be constructed to expand wellness programming and facilities. It will include additional exercise rooms, a fully-equipped fitness center, an indoor swimming pool and locker rooms.

Hoosier Village provides a continuum of care, meeting the changing needs of residents. The new Memory Support Center, licensed for residential care, will implement design and program concepts from the most current research on Alzheimer’s and other dementia care. It will have 36 private rooms along with 7,500 square feet of common areas.

During the campus expansion, future development of more independent-living homes will also be planned. Sites will be prepared for duplex homes, which will be constructed as they are reserved. Also during construction, a “bark park” will be created where Hoosier Village residents can take their dogs for off-leash exercise in a secure area.

Pending approval by the Zionsville Planning Department, Hoosier Village hopes to begin site work in late spring. Construction on the campus expansion should begin in the summer of 2011, with expected completion in 2013.

Hoosier Village is owned and operated by Indiana-based BHI Senior Living (BHI). BHI began in 1905 as a faith-based organization caring for orphan children. In 1952, it evolved to providing a high-quality, full continuum of healthcare services and a fulfilling lifestyle for seniors in Indiana. BHI has three continuing care retirement communities: Hoosier Village in Indianapolis, The Towne House in Fort Wayne and Four Seasons in Columbus.
