The BHI Differentiator

What Makes BHI Senior Living Truly Exceptional

At BHI Senior Living, we don’t just build communities—we nurture a culture of care, connection, and purpose that honors every individual who calls one of our campuses home. For over 100 years, our not-for-profit, faith-based mission has guided us in creating environments where residents thrive at every stage of life.

What sets us apart is not just what we offer—but how we offer it. Our promise is simple: once you choose a BHI community, it will remain your home for life.

A Lifelong Promise

We are proud to honor our founding commitment—no resident will be asked to leave their BHI community due to financial hardship. Each year, we provide between $50,000 and $500,000 in benevolent care per campus, ensuring every resident continues to receive care and community, even in the face of unexpected financial challenges.

Honoring Every Story

Our residents are the heartbeat of our mission—and we’re proud to celebrate their lives in meaningful ways:

Centenarian Celebrations

All BHI campuses honor residents who reach 100+ with special displays, stories, and recognition.

Veteran Recognition

Veterans are recognized through events, commemorations, and year-round tributes. We also cover all costs for residents to bring a guest on Honor Flights, and many communities host Virtual Honor Flights so that every veteran can be honored regardless of mobility.

Resident Councils & Surveys

We actively seek resident feedback through formal Resident Council meetings, post-move-in surveys, and annual satisfaction surveys. Your voice helps shape your home.

Welcome Home: Customer Service Starts Here

We believe that exceptional service begins with intentional hospitality. That’s why every BHI employee participates in Welcome Home—our organization-wide customer service training program. This initiative empowers staff to deliver compassionate, consistent, and personalized experiences that make every resident feel valued from their first day—and every day thereafter.

Whether it’s a friendly greeting at the front desk, a helping hand in the hallway, or simply remembering someone’s favorite activity, Welcome Home ensures our culture of warmth and respect is felt campus-wide.

Living on Purpose

We’ve launched a new life enrichment initiative—Living on Purpose—across all communities. This wellness-centered program helps residents find joy and meaning through personalized experiences aligned with eight dimensions of purposeful living. Every day is an opportunity to grow, connect, and explore passions.

Partnering with the Best

Excellence in care starts with excellence in partners. That’s why we align with the most trusted names in senior living:

Our therapy services partner, HTS, provides outstanding rehabilitation and wellness support with highly skilled professionals who specialize in aging adults.

Morrison Living

Our dining partner brings culinary excellence to each campus with fresh, creative meals, local flavors, and experiences like community cookbooks, chef demonstrations, and sustainable dining initiatives.

Together, these partners help us deliver best-in-class services in every aspect of resident life.

Why It All Matters

At BHI, we are more than senior living—we’re a mission. And we’re proud that our communities reflect this in every way, from our promise of lifelong care, to our meaningful partnerships, to the moments of joy shared daily across our campuses.

We’re not just creating homes—we’re cultivating purpose, preserving legacy, and building community in every sense of the word.

Extending Our Impact Beyond Campus

BHI’s commitment to improving lives and strengthening communities extends beyond our campuses. Since our founding in 1905, we have provided both volunteers and financial support to a wide range of initiatives benefiting not only the people who live and work in BHI communities but also in the areas where we are located. In this spirit of service and honoring our legacy of community support, each year BHI selects four areas of focus. In 2024 BHI has chosen the following four areas:

Community Partnerships

Veteran’s Initiatives

At BHI we believe that individuals who have served our country should be honored more than once a year. We’re proud to provide support for Veteran’s initiatives both on campus and in the larger community. Each BHI Community has a Veteran’s Memorial and individually recognizes Veterans and their spouses. Additionally, BHI underwrites the airfare for guardians of residents participating in Honor Flights to Washington DC.

Alzheimer’s Disease

Dementia, in one form or another, touches each of us. All of us know someone who is living with memory loss. Dementia affects not just the individual, but also has a profound impact on their family. While great strides have been made in research and treatment for Alzheimer’s Disease, a cure has yet to be found. BHI residents and staff members have joined together supporting two important events raising funds to fight this disease. In June, all communities will host events and fundraising initiatives for The Longest Day. The day recognizes the dedication and commitment of those providing care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease. In the fall, both residents and staff members will join in a Walk to End Alzheimer’s. These walks, held in over 600 areas nationwide, are the world’s largest event to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s. BHI participants may join in a walk, or, for residents who may not feel able to participate in a walk, events are held on our campuses.

Education

BHI communities are not only wonderful places to live, but great places to work. Since the inception of the BHI Foundation in 1986, we have committed resources to employee education. This program provides substantial support for tuition, including undergraduate and graduate degrees, specialized certifications, trade schools and other professional training. Currently, over
60 employees are taking advantage of this potentially life-changing program.

Wellness & Living with Purpose

Good health and the time to enjoy it are among life’s greatest gifts. For many residents of BHI Communities, retirement brings time to pursue interests or hobbies, time to devote to families and opportunities to improve or maintain personal health and wellness. Finding joy and a sense of well-being means something different to each of us. This year, we focus on facilitating opportunities for residents to experience new and interesting ways of promoting wellness, whether physical, spiritual, or emotional.

As another part of this year’s focus, the communities are forging relationships with a variety of charitable organizations where residents may share their knowledge, skills, and experience. The opportunities are as varied as the residents themselves. These efforts are not focused just on independent residents, there are opportunities for individuals of all abilities to have meaningful, purposeful engagement.
